Acacia [

[

I am tempted to characterize Acacia as a "poor man's 44 & X," but of course there is nothing "cheap" about their New American menu. I am also tempted to give Acacia's score a boost due to the fact that they actually gave me a medium-rare steak (overcooking is all too common these days; see Mediterra), but of course a medium-rare steak of mediocre quality is not much better. In the end, the only response I can commit to is "meh": the food is already but certainly not worth the price.

The A&B is probably my current "favorite" American restaurant in Princeton. Reasonably priced beer and food with no frills---all of which is more than you can say for Triumph. I am fond of the Kobe beef burger (be sure to emphasize that you want it on the rare side of medium-rare) and the nachos appetizer.

The food overall was neither impressive nor terribly disappointing, but the cost was absolutely not commensurate with the product delivered. AdC embodies two things I hate about modern cuisine in major cities: (a) mediocre fusion food (because it's "so chic"), and (b) paying primarily for the "ambiance". I couldn't take a single bite out w/o marveling at the excellent margins this place must have. Their best dish was the honey-rum glazed pot roast of pork, but it certainly is not enough to bring me back.

The food at this French Moroccan Murray Hill join was reasonably tasty. Unfortunately the service was quite poor. The waiter had mixed up my order and made a rack of lamb instead of duck. I can forgive an honest mistake, and the waiter politely took the food away. Later he returned with more conviction, however, and simply put the plate in front of me. I told him that I still didn't think this was duck---which, for those of you who haven't seen it, looks quite differently from lamb---but he insistedthat it was indeed duck. So I sat there dumbfounded and somewhat amused for a while until my fellow guests corrected the gutsy waiter. While it makes for an amusing story, it is not one I am likely to seek to relive.

Local microbrewery has decent beers but overpriced food. Recently they have also been experimenting with various fushion dishes, which lie well beyond the capabilities of their cooks.

Viet Ai serves quite good Vietnamese, but I would recommend staying away from the pan-Asian dishes.

The open back garden is romantic on summer nights, and sitting inside by the fireplace is equally cozy in the winter. The food (American-Italian fusion), however, is less impressive by each visit, yet the pricy tab remains the same (main dishes are around $30), which unfortunately means this place is not worth the visit.

The food is not awful, but it's not tasty either. Not worth the visit unless you're starving from hiking in the national park all day.

Good food, but a bit too greasy. I may be overly harsh on Chinese restaurants, however, due to my wonderful apartment mate Jiayue. The gan bian si ji dou (dried fried beans?) was actually quite good though.
